Emergencies are defined as pain, swelling, abnormal bleeding, or dental trauma. NOTE: Dental cleaning is not an emergency.

Lincoln Community Health Center

Urgent Care Dental Services are offered Monday – Friday mornings only. By appointment only. PAYMENT IS DUE WHEN SERVICES ARE RENDERED. Payment is based on Sliding Scale, depending on income & family size. Proof of income & family size is required. Minimum co-pay is $3.00 for Medicaid.

Dental SHAC (Student Health Action Coalition)

SHAC Dental Clinic is a free student-run clinic providing FREE Dental screenings/diagnosis, cleanings, fillings, extractions. They provide services for members of the surrounding community in need of emergent dental services who cannot afford care elsewhere. Their address is UNC School of Dentistry, Ground Floor, Tarrson Hall, 101 Manning Drive, Chapel Hill, NC 27599.

The first visit is a short appointment to acquire your x-ray. Third, at your second visit, you will have an exam with a dental student to develop a treatment plan. Finally, you will receive any planned treatment including cleanings, fillings, or extractions.

How to refer:

  • Fill out the survey at the link below, and a coordinator will call you to schedule an appointment when your name is selected.

  • Arrive between 5:15-5:30 pm on the clinic day. Patients are taken by lottery. Forty patients can be seen per clinic session.
  • Please bring the following: Please bring a list of your current medications. If you have diabetes, please know your most recent A1C. If you have asthma please bring your inhaler. If you are taking an anticoagulant and need extractions, please bring a note from your primary care physicians that your INR is stable. If you have an elevated blood pressure or blood glucose level, we will not be able to treat you in our clinic, so take your meds as prescribed on the day of clinic.

Low-Cost (Sliding Fee Scale)

Local Start Dental

Some patients come to Local Start simply for extractions, others for same-day removable dentures, and yet others qualify for more advanced overdentures or fixed prosthetics. Services offered include extracts, dentures and partial dentures, dental implants to support dentures. Services not available include care for children, normal preventative hygiene services, fillings, crowns, bridges, or other specialty care such as orthodontics.

Carrboro Dental Center

We offer a variety of services, including: cleanings (2X per year recommended!), X-rays, fillings, crowns, sealants, fluoride application, partials/dentures, extractions, and root canals.
