Some supplies are generally covered by insurance and can be directly obtained by the patient at a medical supply store. These may include the following and will generally have the Order Type “GSE”.

• BP Cuff – “Blood pressure monitor”
• Compression Stockings – “Compression stockings”, “Compression Stockings – Knee High”, or “Compression Stockings – Thigh High”
• Heating Pads – “Heating pad”
• Pulse Ox – “Pulse Oximeter”
• Scale – use “Generic Supply Order”
• TENS Unit – “Tens Unit”

To order:

1. Place the order for the supply as above. Can free-text if the supply is not one of the ones listed
   
2. Print the order and hand it to the patient to bring to the medical supply store or pharmacy.
3. Document the need for the order in the note including associated diagnosis, in case the patient’s insurance requires further authorization.
4. Direct the patient to a medical supply store. The two major stores in North Durham are:
