“Five strands of long beard” refers to long and smooth facial hair, such as that of Guan Yu, also known as Guan Yu, a character from the Three Kingdoms period. The “five strands” consist of a strand of long beard on the left ear, a strand on the right ear, two symmetrical strands on either side of the upper lip, and one strands on the chin, together forming the “five strands of long beard.”
