Jin’ou 金甌 [gold cup]

Ou  is a category of container in ancient China. There were different shapes and sizes of ou throughout Chinese history, but the ou here should refer to a container similar to a cup. The term ”jin’ou 金甌 [golden ou]” does not necessarily mean an ou made of gold. It is more likely to be metonymy using ”golden ou” to generally refer to ”expensive and delicate ou”. The term ”jinou” is also often used as a metaphor for territory in Chinese, and the idiom jin ou wu que 金甌 [a complete golden ou]” means ”intact territory”.
