A moon gate (Chinese: 月亮门; pinyin: yuèliàngmén) is a circular opening in a garden wall that acts as a pedestrian passageway. It is a traditional architectural element in Chinese gardens. Not only does it work as a passageway, it also introduces the scenery of the other side of the garden to form a “picture in picture” effect that traditional Chinese garden values.
