Clip Remover – Fix Your Recording Mistake

By: Stephen Toback

We recently hosted Panopto on site to do an interview. Unfortunately the interviewer’s mic was too hot and was significantly clipped.  This made it a bit uncomfortable for their audience.

I remember that Adobe Audition used to have a DeClipper feature in their effects library but for the life of me I could not find it in Audition 2025. There was a “Diagnostics” section under effects that doesn’t seem to be there anymore.

FX Factory had a similar plugin that is also no more.

After some Googling, I found Boris FX’s ClipRemover (not a great name BTW). They have a monthly subscription so for $18, I solved the problem pretty well in my humble opinion. What do you think?

  1. Audio seems a touch better with ClipRemover. We have had good luck with Izotope though a lot more expensive. This is a good argument for recording in 32-bit float if possible. Boy, we have all been there.
