Adobe Premiere Generative Extend First Look

By: Stephen Toback

One of the highlights of the Adobe Max keynote today was “Generative Extend”. Ever needed just a bit more of a clip to transition or perhaps your talent didn’t give you time to get out of the shot before they got up? Generative Extend gets you just that little bit more that you need to help you finish your edit.  Yes, it also lets you extend from the front to create some more padding if you needed more at the start if your talent didn’t give you enough space before talking.

There are restrictions (of course).  The first few shots I tried didn’t work. Either the shots were too grainy or had too much camera motion or were portrait. Here’s a shot that wouldn’t extend (all footage is from Pixabay):

When it did work, it was quite amazing:

The render time was pretty quick on my Intel Macbook Pro. Pretty great feature and I’m sure we’ll see some of the limits lifted in the future as the tool develops.
