Resources & Getting Help

Prof. Stephens-Martinez Helper Hours

My helper hours will be shared with CompSci216 Everything Data. They are as follows:

  • Tuesday over Zoom noon-1 (link to the Zoom is in Canvas’s Home page)
  • Wednesday 2:40 – 3:30 outside French 2231. If I’m not there, I’ve returned to my office, LSRC 224 (This is right after CompSci216).

How to read academic papers/writings

Reading academic writing is a skill that needs to be learned and practiced. If you have not yet learned this skill, I strongly recommend the following readings:

  1. How to Read a Paper by S. Keshav – This covers a kind of “algorithm” to “read” (more like extract value from) a paper.
  2. How to Read Academic Papers without Freaking Out – This is some about how to do it and is full of more the attitude on how to approach a paper.

OIT Containers

If something happens to your computer that you cannot finish your data analysis work, consider using the OIT containers, where you can access their virtual machines anytime. Go to the container manager and use the container that best suits your needs.
