On this episode of The Cineamerican Dream, Nick and Ethan N. will sit down to talk about Dhoom 3, a fast-paced and action-packed film straight out of Bollywood. We’ll discuss some general context for the film, including perceptions of Bollywood films and trends in the 21st century, then dive into some of the conflicts seen in the movie and the deeper meaning behind them.
The movie itself follows Sahir, an Indian circus leader in America living with a long-held hatred for American capitalism and banks. This hatred is motivated by their denial to fund his father’s circus during his childhood, ultimately ending in his father’s death. Although he roams the city and leads his circus by day, he spends much of his time performing heists and escaping in an elaborate act similar to the ones in his circus. The movie is three hours of twists and turns (won’t spoil them here) that culminate in an emotional final scene. The movie brings questions of identity in the modern age, the balance between freedom and greed, and themes of escapism. It follows in the footsteps of its predecessors (Dhoom and Dhoom 2), two of the most successful action films in Indian cinema, and we would definitely recommend watching them all. Thanks for listening!
