My Blueberry Nights 2021

On this week’s episode of My CineAmerican Dreams, we dive into a deep discussion on Wong Kar Wai’s 2007 English debut film My Blueberry Nights starring Norah Jones and Jude Law.

The film showcases our protagonist Elizabeth (Norah Jones), as she travels across The United States, learning about life and love and finding herself in the process. After a tough breakup, Elizabeth seeks comfort in a local cafe where she meets Jeremey, played by Jude Law. The two comfort each other but Elizabeth decides to set out on an adventure to find herself and flee from the painful memories of a love lost. Initially lost, unsure of who she is or where she is going, Elizabeth begins to redefine and better understand herself through the people she meets on her journey. In this episode, we touch on themes such as American ideals and culture, dreams in America, Wong Kar Wai’s stylistic choices and impressions of America as a mechanism of his Chinese background, and so much more.
