Descriptive Findings

The Chinese Immigrants in the Raleigh-Durham Area (ChIRDU) Study is a research study conducted by investigators at Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2018. The study successfully interviewed 506 residents in the Raleigh-Durham Area who were born in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, using three modes of data collection: in person, phone and web interviews.

The tables and figures below summarize some descriptive findings of the ChIRDU study. Table 1 provides a description of the main demographic characteristics of the ChIRDU sample of respondents. The sample is representative of the Chinese population born in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong and living in the Raleigh Durham Area in 2018. Figure 1 provides a description of the main industries of employment as reported by ChIRDU respondent. Figure 2 shows an anonymized social network of ChIRDU respondents according to the gender of respondents and of the friends they nominated.
