Unfortunately due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, our programming will continue to be virtual for this semester. However, this luckily allows us to access more high school students at Northern and expand our programming! This semester (Fall 2021) we have three planned modules, with mentoring sessions intertwined. The modules for this semester are College/ Career Prep, Environmental Science, and Health/ Anatomy. Each module will run for three weeks with one week dedicated to a related activity, one dedicated to a panel of guest speakers, and one mentoring session. In the mentoring session weeks, we also plan to work on an ongoing research activity that will culminate with a project at the end of the semester programming. The spring ’22 semester programming is still TBD, but our check out our website in the future for updates! Also, see the graphic below for a more concise visualization of our plans.
While working on our module-based and mentoring programming, we are also in the process of partnering with Environmentors, “a science education and national college access program with a mission to mentor and motivate high school students from communities underrepresented in the sciences as they plan and conduct environmental research and acquire skills that will allow them to build careers and become more active stewards of their communities and the environment,” for future semesters. We are also applying for a Bass Connections project for the 2022-2023 academic year!
