As you have seen throughout this exhibit, the Bible is ambiguous about animal-rights issues, and differences in translation and interpretation have led Christians to perceive animals in vastly different ways. A question that must arise when examining organizations like PETA, who have used Bible verses in advertisement campaigns to convince people to become vegans, or Limitless Outdoors, a group that aims to connect Christians with God through hunting, is whether these groups truly believe that the Bible is in support of their cause — or if they are simply using the text to appeal to religious audiences or justify their actions. And this question reaches far beyond the bounds of the Bible’s stance on animal-rights issues. Every biblical argument, then, should be approached with an open mind and a willingness to challenge each party’s motivation for using the Bible.
