In honor and recognition of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in May, join us for a 3-part study and discussion series of The Myth of the Model Minority: Asian Americans Facing Racism, 2nd Edition, co-authored by Rosalind S. Chou and Joe R. Feagin.
“The authors show how the ‘model minority’ is a myth, too inaccurate to be useful. They reveal how it reflects invidious assumptions and is abused for political purposes. Anyone who cares about Asian Americans – indeed, who is interested in the dynamics of diversity – should be interested in this detailed critique.” Frank H. Wu, author of Yellow: Race in America Beyond Black and White
Discussion Series – Tuesdays, May 6th-20th, 2025, 12:00-12:55pm (via Zoom)

Joe R. Feagin’s scholarship reveals the continued influence of anti-Blackness, White supremacy and capitalism on the lives and politics of oppressed and marginalized communities, always attentive to how Whiteness is historically, politically and socially constructed as an apparatus of power and disenfranchisement. Currently, he serves as Professor of Sociology at Texas A&M University.
