Kode with Klossy: Scholar, Workshop Facilitator, and Instructor Assistant
Date: July 2021 – August 2023
Summary: Throughout my undergraduate education I have been heavily involved with Kode with Klossy, an organization that aims to provide coding scholarships and learning experiences for gender minorities to pursue computer science.
- 2021 scholar: my team and I created Mending Medicine, a website that provides informative resources on racial health disparities in clinical care and medical technology development.
- 2022 scholar: my team and I created a mobile application that engages users towards civic action.
- 2022 workshop facilitator: led and taught an introductory workshop on intermediate-level HTML and CSS to high-school students; recruited scholars, customized the CS curriculum, and mentored students toward developing their final projects. This experience was designed by KWK to be an independently-led and facilitator-driven experience to engage local community members toward pursuing CS.
- Summer 2023 instructor assistant: taught the basics of front-end web development, such as coding in HTML/CSS/JavaScript, wire-framing, and building an entrepreneurial passion project.
During these experiences, I learned the fundamentals of front-end development, including how to code in HTML/CSS/JavaScript and Swift, and utilizing XCode. Additionally, I was able to work in the intersections of product development, CS, and education. It reaffirmed the importance of diversity in STEM and the employment of research and entrepreneurial projects towards social good and engineering better medicines.
