Global Experience

Experience 1: BME 462 Senior Design

Date: August 2024 – December 2024

Advisor: Dr. Megan Madonna

Summary: BME462 is a senior capstone design course in Biomedical Engineering that emphasizes collaboration with international partners to co-develop engineering solutions tailored to community-specific needs. My team and I partnered with clients in Cajamarca, Peru, to design and construct an ergonomic, semi-portable gynecology table for employment in the Teaching Hospital of Cajamarca. This project aims to address low patient retention for cervical cancer screenings in Peru by enhancing patient comfort and fostering a more accessible and supportive healthcare environment; we plan to send our device to Peru for testing.

Experience 2: Vice President of Communications for Duke-UNICEF

Date: September 2022 – Present

Summary: Duke-UNICEF is a campus chapter of the international UNICEF organization with a mission of providing humanitarian aid and developmental aid to children globally in conflict-ridden areas. As an executive board member, I help create social media graphics and send out ListServ emails to inform club members of differing club volunteering and fundraising initiatives. Additionally, I help out with promotional activities and volunteer at fundraisers that help support organizations that align with UNICEF’s mission, such as tabling for humanitarian aid and collecting artwork submissions for Turkey and Syria after an environmental disaster. Additionally, I have helped with UNICEF’s work for fundraising donations in Ukraine and Pakistan, aiding the club in raising over $8000.

Experience 3: Engineers without Borders, Buffalo

Date: September 2021 – May 2022

Summary: I was the secretary for the Buffalo Engineers without Borders (EWB) chapter where we worked on a multi-disciplined team to implement a water filtration/chlorination system in Laguna, Nicaragua. In this project, we designed an efficient and cost-effective plan to filter clean water, while collaborating closely with community leaders in Laguna such as the mayor. I plan to continue to work with the EWB Triangle Chapter.
