Experience 1: Trainer for Duke-Ignite Program

Date: September 2022 – Present

Summary: Ignite is an engineering curriculum developed by the Center for Global Women’s Health Technologies at Duke University aligned with the mission of encouraging creative innovators and problem-solvers to utilize human-centered engineering design to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges. I work as both a Trainer and researcher with the Ignite program, working under the high school (HS) and middle school programs, respectively. As an Ignite HS Trainer, I mentor high-school students and lead the healthcare curriculum for year-long research projects related to the United National Sustainable Development Goal, Health, based on fundamental engineering principles and human-centered design. Through my work as a Trainer, I have been able to help the program participants create projects for health issues that they’re passionate about and that they believe are important for their local communities, exemplifying to me how it is important to tackle future health issues with diverse perspectives and curiosity. I have been involved in the analysis of the HS program data to evaluate the impact of Ignite’s human-centered design process on students’ and mentors’ self-efficacy and confidence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, which culminated in an abstract accepted to the Annual 2023 Biomedical Engineering Society Conference!

Experience 2: Vice President of Communications for Duke-UNICEF

Date: September 2022 – Present

Summary: Duke-UNICEF is a campus chapter of the international UNICEF organization that aids in the mission of helping provide humanitarian aid and developmental aid to children globally in conflict-ridden areas. As a member, I help create social media graphics and send out ListServ emails to inform club members of differing club volunteering and fundraising initiatives. Additionally, I have helped out in promotional activities and directly with tabling for fundraisers for supporting organizations that align with UNICEF’s mission, such as tabling for humanitarian aid and artwork submissions for Turkey/Syria (pictured).

Experience 3: Intern for Weill Cornell Medicine

Date: October 2021 – January 2022

Summary:  As an intern, I learned about vaccine science, research, and production, virology, immunology, and health disparities all under the lens of COVID-19 with the end goal of empathetically empowering and informing diverse communities to get vaccinated. I completed a final capstone project where I co-created/coded a website intended to inform community members by debunking misinformation about vaccines and describing the science behind COVID-19 in an easily accessible and digestible manner.
