The film Wajib (or “Duty”) takes place in Nazareth in the West Bank, and is directed and created by Annemarie Jacir, who is Palestinian. Wajib depicts a father and son who live in amongst Palestinian Christians in Nazareth, Abu Shadi and Shadi. The two traverse Nazareth in order to deliver invitations to Abu Shadi’s daughter’s wedding, and their journey takes the viewer not only through Nazareth itself, but also through their relationship, everyday life for Palestinians in the West Bank, as well as political differences among other topics.
