| Reverend Dr. Smith is an ordained Minister in the National Baptist Convention, USA, and a theological ethicist. His research and writing focuses on bioethics, end of life care, and religious social ethics, with an interest in Black Baptist spirituality and moral philosophy. Reverend Dr. Smith holds a joint appointment in the School of Medicine’s Department of Population Health Sciences, is Director of the Bioethics program at Duke’s Trent Center for Bioethics, Humanities & History of Medicine, and is a Senior Fellow at the Kenan Institute for Ethics. He serves on the Board of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities, is a 2023 Hastings Center Fellow, a member of the 2023 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Academic Leadership Network, and was the 2022 recipient of the Edmund Pellegrino Award in healthcare ethics. |
