Dr. Van Scoy is a Pulmonology and Critical Care physician with clinical interests in acute
respiratory distress syndrome, clinical ethics, and end of life decision-making. She focuses
her research on qualitative and mixed methodologies to evaluate communication tools in a
variety of areas, including advance care planning. Dr. Van Scoy is the Director of Project
Talk, an NIH-funded program that engages underserved communities in end of life goal
planning using conversational tools, such as an end-of-life conversation game. She
recently partnered with the Hospice Foundation of America to lead a national community-
engagement project to disseminate and evaluate the game across 27 states.  She is also Co-Director of the College of Medicine's Qualitative and Mixed Methods Core Lab.
