Reverend Dr. Delk became the first Black woman ordained in the United Church of Christ in 1974, and for nearly 50 years, has been a strong ally in the fight for human and civil rights for people of color, women, and children.  She was a Christian Educator in Atlanta, GA, Cinncinati, OH, and New York, NY, in the 1960s Civil Rights era; a traveler in East and West Africa in the 1970s focusing on Black liberation and anti-apartheid activism; and Executive Director of the Community Renewal Society in 1980s Chicago, IL, a UCC affiliated non-profit organization that addressed poverty and homelessness.  In 2020, the Virginia Council of Churches awarded Reverend Dr. Delk a Lifetime Award in ecumenism for bringing Christians of different denominations together to promote Christian unity.
