Natural products are the largest single source of small molecule drugs, as well as important chemical tools in various biological research fields. These molecules are important mediators of intra- and inter-species communications or serve as chemical defenses in microbiological communities. Thus, their discovery and elucidation of biosynthetic pathways are foundations of many biological and biomedical research. We are currently working on the biosynthesis and discovery/engineering of molybdenum cofactor, nucleoside natural products, peptide natural products (RiPPs), and mitomycins.
