Consider the wide variety of texts that social scientists at Duke produce–from ethnographic monographs to public policy memos, from original analysis of heretofore unknown primary texts to literature reviews that bring a reader up to speed on a complex array of findings on a topic. In order for our students to understand how writing works to produce knowledge in the social sciences, we must introduce them to many, varied genres of writing.
