Hernán Darío Gómez
Gómez, though not very well known, is one of only two managers to lead three different teams to the World Cup (Colombia 1998, Ecuador 2002, Panama 2018). The Colombian began his managerial career with Atletico Nacional in Brazil, winning both a league title and Copa Libertadores. After this, he went on to manage the Colombian team twice, Ecuador, Guatemala, and two Colombian clubs. His appointment to the Panama job was controversial due to the fact that he was dismissed from the Colombian job after assaulting a woman outside a pub. Gómez takes charge of a talented Colombian squad including talents such as Falcao, James Rodriguez, and Juan Cuadrado. Colombia’s success in the 2014 World Cup will lead many fans to hope for at least a quarter-final place this year but sharing a group with England and Belgium may prove this to be a difficult feat to accomplish.
