Role and Projected Tournament Outlook:

Another solid choice at midfield for the English squad in France, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain made a solid run through the qualifying phase for England en route to seven appearances, one goal and three assists (UEFA, 2016). After being called up to the senior national squad for the 2012 Euros, the midfielder has posted five goals in his 24 caps at the international level and has made his mark as one of the most dynamic wingers that the English Premier League offers (Arsenal, 2016).

Despite many downplaying his ability to make the start for Hodgson in the coming championships, the English manager has never been afraid to use Oxlade-Chamberlain in big games for the English side. For instance, Hodgson gave the young teenager a start in the opening game of the 2012 Euros against France, hoping that he would provide energy and creativity to the rest of the squad (McNulty, “Euro,” 2015).

Although he did not play for Arsenal in March due to lingering injuries, Oxlade-Chamberlain should be slotted on the right side of the midfield or up near the front third as a winger for the central strikers. Due to his ability to hold his midfield line, as well as make a good, wide attack, the Arsenal star is pressing once again to make inroads for the English squad in its quest for the European title. If he can maintain his pace and creative ability out of the midfield, expect to see Hodgson utilize Oxlade-Chamberlain alongside Jordan Henderson this summer (Arsenal, 2016).
