Maria Zurita Ontiveros

Hi! My name is Maria Zurita Ontiveros, and I’m a sophomore from Mexico City, Mexico. I’m currently majoring in Theater Studies and History with a minor in German, and I want to go into directing. I’m passionate about inclusivity in theater, movie scores, historical novels, and early 2000s emo music. When I’m not hanging out with Ubuntu folk, I’m usually at rehearsals for Hoof ‘n’ Horn or Duke Players, or baking cookies and cakes. If you want to hear a good horror story, take a trip to the local Mexican panadería, or talk about turtles and other reptiles, hit me up!

Robbie Ha

Hi y’all, I’m Robbie! I’m a junior from Seattle majoring in Computer Science and Public Policy with a minor in Political Science. On campus, I serve on the Editorial Board for The Chronicle, play violin for Hoof ‘n’ Horn, and live with freshman on East (I’m an RA!). I love politics, David Bowie, and public transit.

Joining Ubuntu has been one of the best decisions I’ve made since coming to Duke—it’s a place where you can be yourself to the fullest and meet truly spectacular people. If you ever want to hang and spill some tea with a self-proclaimed master of the craft, come find me in Giles or hmu on social!

Evelyn Chen

Hey! I’m Evelyn, and I’m from Westford, Massachusetts. I’m currently majoring in economics, with the hopes of working in something related to economic development or urban planning in a big US city. I’m passionate about housing affordability, public transit, and improving public schools!

On campus, I work as a tutor in a Durham public school, volunteer as a financial coach at the Community Empowerment Fund (a local Durham nonprofit), and I’m gonna be volunteering at the Puppy Center this semester (which I’m SUPER excited about).

Outside of academics, I love reading, meticulously curating my Spotify playlists and getting people to follow them, listening to the Phantom of the Opera soundtrack over and over, and learning Persian! Fun fact about me, the summer before my freshman year at Duke, I spent 6 weeks living in Tajikistan and learning Tajiki Persian. It is definitely the most interesting thing I’ve ever done, and it was an amazing experience.

Hit me up if you ever want to talk about economic justice, a good book you’ve read recently, or your favorite subway system.

Evie Marecki

Hello! My name is Evangeline, but I go by Evie.

I am currently a senior at Duke studying Computer Science and Classics. Things I love include running, reading, climbing, and heights in general. I’m not sure what the future holds for me, but I hope to continue learning and getting to know more people (that includes you!). Thanks for reading my bio and feel free to hit me up!

Courtney Hill

Hello fellows!

I journeyed into Ubuntu from a faraway place called Forney, Texas (a Dallas suburb). I am a Biology major with an ecology and plant science focus because plants tiny to huge are all adorable; it is not arguable. I typically spend a lot of time with my research, but outside of class and lab you may also find me at work in the textbook store in the BC, feel free to bring me nugs at work to win my affections.

Now getting away from responsibilities, I like making pencil sketching and looking at art. I love music so I spend lots of time blasting and dancing to music, and I really like going to raves and EDM festivals. Reading fiction (fantasy, sci-fi, ghost/horror stories) is something I really enjoy as well as reading and writing poetry. Nature exploration is always fun with my reference books to improve on plant identification. Other random things I am particularly passionate about among many are overall wellness, deep relationships, seafood, environment/plants, Hispanic cultures (I’m half Mexican), sex positivity, skull/skeleton/tattoo art, and people’s rights to wear whatever the fook they want.

Thanks for coming to check me out, yo.

Grace Francese

Hi! I’m Grace Francese, and I hail from the Washington, DC area. I’m studying English and public policy, so I can usually be found with way too many novels in my bag. With Ubuntu, I enjoy shamelessly texting the group chat to get people to go on off campus outings with me, and outside of Ubuntu, I enjoy working for the Center for Child and Family Policy and letting Hoof’n’Horn take up all my free time. If you want to get to know me, just come yell about your favorite books (or anything else you get super excited about) with me!

Kristina McKean

My name is Kristina McKean and I am a junior from Richmond, Virginia majoring in Environmental Science and Policy. I love being out in nature, writing, doodling, listening to all sorts of music (The Talking Heads are my all time favorite though), watching most things HBO (especially Game of Thrones and Westworld), and playing Scrabble! I also enjoy working at Walltown Children’s Theatre, an awesome nonprofit near East Campus that provides arts education to the Durham Area. Please contact me at kristina.mckean@duke.edu if you ever want to talk about anything!
