MATLAB License Renewed; Students Added to License

Renewal Announcement

Duke’s MathWorks license has been renewed, and new installations of the software will expire on September 1, 2016 (August 1 with a 30 day grace period).

Detailed renewal instructions for all versions of MATLAB, including links to license files and PLPs, can be found here: http://oit.duke.edu/comp-print/software/support/matlab.php.  Anyone with a standalone installation of version 2008a and newer can renew by launching MATLAB as an administrator and then going to Help -> Licensing -> Update Current Licenses, and clicking Update.

Installations pointing to a license server will not be renewed until the server license is renewed.  OIT Software Licensing does not manage any license servers for MATLAB.

Important License Updates

Students have been added to Duke’s MathWorks license, meaning that they may now install MATLAB on their personal computers for academic use.  The student license will be a separate Total Student Headcount license with the same list of licensed products as the faculty/staff license.  The primary differences in the licenses are that students are limited to having the software installed on a maximum of two computers simultaneously and also that students may not contact MathWorks technical support.  There are separate license numbers for the student and faculty/staff licenses.

There are also several product changes that have happened over the past year.  Two products, MATLAB Builder EX and MATLAB Builder NE, have been merged into the MATLAB Compiler as of R2015a.  Three new products have been added as a result: MATLAB Compiler SDK, Robotics System Toolbox, and SimPowerSystems.  Additionally, the Statistics Toolbox is now called the Statistics and Machine Learning Toolbox.
