New Software Evaluation: CCC (Carbon Copy Cloner)

OIT Software Licensing is evaluating the current and prospective usage of CCC (Carbon Copy Cloner).

Carbon Copy Cloner offers fast, incremental backups that copy only items that differ from the last backup, as well as checksum analysis of your backed up files, archiving and archive management, and backup task scheduling. With CCC, you can back up to a locally-attached hard drive, to a network volume, or to another Macintosh across your network or across the Internet.

A site license for CCC has been requested through our new software evaluation request form (http://oit.duke.edu/comp-print/software/request/it_request.php) for central funding/distribution, and we put together a wiki with some information on the software and some of the purchase options.

If you are interested in this software or have considered purchasing this before, we invite you to visit the wiki and comment on it.  The information that we collect in this manner will help us determine whether or not central funding and distribution would be beneficial to the Duke community.

This is an inexpensive license, and if there is interest then this seems like a good value for Duke.  If there is not much interest, however, then it should not be purchased centrally.
