Job Announcement: SNCF Seeks Part-Time Project Coordinator

Scholars for North Carolina’s Future (SNCF) is a non-profit organization that encourages faculty and graduate students to share research-based knowledge with the public in order to promote just, equitable, and democratic public policy in North Carolina.

As the Program Coordinator for SNCF, you will play a leading role in 1) providing support to faculty and ally organizations as they plan public engagements; 2) maintaining organizational visibility through social media; 3) alerting faculty and graduate students members to pressing state policy matters relevant to their expertise and interests; and 4) implementing strategies to expand our network of over 250 scholars around the state.

The ideal candidate should be interested in and committed to staying abreast of current policy issues in North Carolina and in learning how to become an effective organizer. S/he will have strong communication skills, enjoy working with faculty and graduate students, and be a self-starter capable of taking initiative. S/he will also have experience with social media, and a willingness to learn database and listserv management, WordPress, and MailChimp for newsletter production. This is a wonderful opportunity to imagine possibilities for a small non-profit and be a key player in facilitating organizational success. It is an ideal position for a graduate student or recent Ph.D. interested in a policy and/or organizing career.

Primary Job Responsibilities Include:

–       Serve as primary point of contact for the organization, facilitating and maintaining communication with SNCF members, chapters, and supporters around the state

–       Facilitate meetings of the SNCF Steering Committee

–       Maintain social media (Facebook/Twitter) and Website

–       Maintain membership database and listservs

–       Identify and engage new faculty members

–       Research multiple media outlets regularly to stay abreast of NC policy challenges

–       Draft content for and create bi-monthly SNCF newsletter

–       Encourage faculty participation in public outreach such as teach-ins, panel discussions, and Op-Ed writing

–       Work with allied organizations such as NC Justice Center, Democracy NC, NAACP, and Women AdvaNCe, to connect SNCF members to opportunities for public engagement

This is a part-time position, for 15-20 hours per week, depending on candidate’s situation. Program Coordinator will be paid at the rate of $15/hour, as an independent contractor.
