Edward Mandolang

Edward Mandolang has many of the attributes that typify Duke’s Religious Studies majors, like hard work, good humor, and a nuanced perspective on the world, but his exceptional skill at listening carefully to different perspectives stands out. As one professor puts it, “He might want to consider a career as a spy, because he instantly puts people at ease, and I suspect perfect strangers would be willing to tell their deepest, darkest secrets to Edward after five minutes of conversation.” Edward focused on Christianity in his Major, taking courses in Christian history, scripture, and the non-canonical gospels, among other topics, alongside his study of Islam. He pursues his research with an authority that comes from the best kind of humility, though he does have somewhat of a reputation for arriving to classes precisely on time – never early and never late. Perhaps he will receive a watch as a graduation present in honor of this special skill?  After graduation, Edward will lend both his generous and easy-going spirit and his sharp critical thinking to the Success Academy Charter Schools, where he will be teaching. We are so proud of what he has accomplished and are very glad for the inspiration he will soon be sharing with the young people of New York City!
