Fleeing the tumultuous political situation in Venezuela, Laura Gonzqui migrated to the U.S. in 2015. There, she and her husband were in opposition to the Chavez government and organized protests. Laura began singing at 7 years old, participating in music competitions and later singing with pop rock bands at festivals on the weekends. She eventually studied International Law and diplomacy, but found an important escape in music– “el arte te desconecta”, she says. In Venezuela she formed part of a pop rock cover band, El Experimento. Coming to NC, she was resigned to leaving her musical dreams aside, but was pleasantly surprised to find other Venezuelan musicians to collaborate with. Laura and her husband own a small handyman business, and are raising two kids. In 2020, during the pandemic, Laura decided to fulfill a life long dream and begin writing and recording her own original songs– “You have to fight for your dreams– the children grow up, but then what happened with your own dreams?”
Huyendo de la tumultuosa situación política en Venezuela, Laura Gonzqui emigró a los Estados Unidos en 2015, después de organizar protestas en oposición al gobierno de Hugo Chávez. Laura comenzó a cantar a los 7 años, participando en concursos de música y luego cantando con bandas de pop-rock en festivales los fines de semana. Eventualmente estudió derecho internacional y diplomacia, pero encontró un escape importante en la música– “el arte te desconecta”, dice. En Venezuela formó parte de una banda pop-rock, El Experimento. Al llegar a Carolina del Norte, se resignó a dejar de lado sus sueños musicales, pero se sorprendió gratamente al encontrar a otros músicos venezolanos con quienes colaborar. Laura y su esposo son dueños de un pequeño negocio de mantenimiento y están criando a dos hijos. En 2020, durante la pandemia, Laura decidió cumplir un sueño de toda la vida y comenzar a escribir y grabar sus propias canciones originales: “Tienes que luchar por tus sueños, los niños crecen, pero luego, ¿qué pasó con tus propios sueños? ”
