Welcome to the inaugural offering of Hacking 4 Defense at Duke. Student teams will tackle 8 problems sourced from sponsors in the DoD:
Problem 1:
- Problem sponsor: 3rd Special Forces Group (Green Berets), Ft. Bragg
- Challenge: First Special Forces Regiment needs a way to rapidly refine and distribute publicly available information at the tactical level in order to improve situational awareness during a foreign military operation.
Problem 2:
- Problem sponsor: 3rd Special Forces Group (Green Berets), Ft. Bragg
- Challenge: Special Forces Detachment Commanders need a standardized process for cost-benefit analysis of all training resources in order to make defensible, data-based resource arguments.
Problem 3:

- Challenge: Special Forces Medical Sergeants need access to additional healthcare expertise and advice in the field in order to inform decision making related to hurt personnel and improve patient outcomes
Problem 4:
- Problem Sponsor: JFK Special Warfare Center and School, Ft. Bragg
- Challenge: Research psychologists in the Department of Defense need an efficient way to collect and store data on soldiers’ physiological responses to training and simulations in order to increase the efficacy of human performance tracking.
Problem 5:

- Challenge: Pharmacy technicians at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base need a streamlined process to help redirect and triage patient needs in order to reduce wait times.
Problem 6:

- Challenge: Retention Non-Commissioned Officers need better incentives to encourage medics to serve longer in order to ensure Special Forces units are fully manned to meet critical mission requirements.
