Engineering Graduate Student Council
Mission and Purpose:
The Engineering Graduate Student Council (EGSC) is the central student representation and leadership board for all graduate students at the Pratt School of Engineering. Our mission is to foster community, advocate for student interests, and enhance the engineering graduate experience through a variety of social, professional, and academic programming. As student leaders, we connect students across Pratt’s master’s and PhD programs and serve as a bridge between the graduate student body and the Pratt administration. We are committed to fostering an inclusive, engaged, and thriving community that represents students of all backgrounds and academic disciplines.
Signature Events
A beloved weekly tradition held in the Harrington Quad most Friday afternoons throughout the year no matter the weather. This is a great chance for Pratt graduate students to unwind and connect with peers outside the lab, classroom, or department. Students enjoy a relaxed outdoor setting with complimentary refreshments, music, and games after a productive week.
This annual photography contest celebrates the intersection of science and visual art. Students, faculty, and staff are challenged to capture the unseen beauty of STEM research with images of things that are too small to be seen with the naked eye. A panel of experts and judges from the Pratt community select images that will be displayed in the FCIEMAS Atrium
Student engagement events designed to encourage connection across the various engineering graduate departments, programs and student groups. These gatherings are held at local Durham venues or at on-campus locations.
A professional photographer will provide complementary headshots for all Pratt graduate students. This is a great opportunity for students to enhance their LinkedIn, Handshake, and other professional profiles.
This very popular annual event gives our graduate students a chance to try cuisine from around the globe without leaving campus. Graduate student cooks will have a chance to show off their culinary skills and their culture by making their favorite food and drinks. Dozens of cooks will engage in friendly competition while hundreds of students try new things.
An annual outdoor gathering in late August or early September to kick off the academic year. We invite the entire Pratt graduate community together for a day of relaxation, recreation, and community at one of Durham’s local lakes or State parks.
