Jehovah

Nia Williams
Nia Williams used her enrichment funding to participate in NYU Tisch’s “Sight and Sound: Filmmaking” intensive with director, actor, and professor, Vondie Curtis-Hall. Throughout the six-week course, she wrote, shot, directed, and edited seven short films. Presented is one of her films for the “Mise-en-Scène” unit titled, Jehovah. The prompt was to create a one-shot film that used the physical environment and soundscape (no sync-sound) to tell a story. The film chronicles the chaotic relationship between a brother and sister that parallels the chaos in their surrounding city. Here is a link to Nia’s portfolio with more of her films. Enjoy!

  1. Hi Nia, loved watching this film! I love the initial fuzzy visual texture of the shot and the way that it slowly becomes porous, allowing motion in from the outside world. I also think the color palette is incredibly striking, especially when the espresso can appears! -Margot

  2. I grew up a Jehovah’s witness and have done door to door service on many occasions. I am not quite sure I understand the importance of the Jehovah’s Witnesses coming to the door in your film. It would be great if you could expand upon why you chose to include this as part of your film.

  3. Now that’s one creative way to make a film. I lllllove suspense, so I was amazed by how this movie left a lot of questions unanswered. I just hope it has a continuation to answer most of the viewer’s questions?
