who we are
Peer for You is a student-run resource that promotes wellbeing by providing the space for undergraduate students to reach out to peers for support and referrals. Students can reach out to our Peer Responders, who are trained by CAPS and DuWell, about anything from academic stress and homesickness to rush and student life. Peer Responders are here to provide support, refer students to other resources when needed, and offer the point of view of a peer.
what we do
In the past, students reached out to Peer Responders anonymously through our website, peerforyou.org. This year, we are moving to an in-person model! Peer Responders will host an in-person Chat Room in East Oasis. This is a space for students to relax and chat with peers and Peer Responders. The Chat Room is an open and safe space for everybody. Peer Responders are also part of the first year house network – each Peer Responder is a representative and point of contact for one of the East Campus dorms!
Peer for You also runs the Kindness Gram Initiative, started by Andrew Carlins in 2018. With Kindness Grams, students can send handwritten notes to one another, along with a KIND snack bar or gummies. Students can write their notes during the Moments of Mindfulness Programming at Student Wellness Center. Peer for You members will then package and deliver them.
Peer for You envisions a Duke campus where students feel freer to share their struggles and difficulties with one another and are no longer intimidated by notions of “effortless perfection.” We hope to foster a more supportive Duke community by encouraging students to be more open and honest with themselves and each other.
