The Duke Department of Pediatrics proudly celebrates the selection of two of our fellows, Dr. Brandi Holthaus and Dr. Flannery Bowman, as Katz-Denny Fellows in the distinguished Unified Program for Therapeutics in Children (UPTiC).
UPTiC is an NIH-funded T32 program in collaboration with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, designed to prepare physician-scientists in pediatric therapeutics; from bench to bedside.
This year, the program selected:
• Dr. Brandi Holthaus, an Infectious Diseases fellow, who will study pediatric antimicrobial resistance and antibiotic therapy optimization under the mentorship of Dr. Kanezia Zimmerman.
• Dr. Flannery Bowman, a Hematology and Oncology fellow, who will work with Dr. Stephen Skapek to identify therapeutic agents targeting the retinoblastoma pathway in rhabdomyosarcoma.
We also welcome Dr. Marielys Collazo-Román from UNC, who will focus on antibody responses that protect against severe dengue disease, under the mentorship of Dr. Prem Lakshmanane.
