Parekh Family Foundation’s Annual Foot and Ankle Training Program in India

On January 7, 2016, Dr. Parekh and fifth-year resident Dr. Julie Neumann traveled to India to take part in Dr. Parekh’s annual Parekh Family Foundation Foot and Ankle training program.

Every January since 2010, and every June since 2013, Dr. Parekh takes a team from the USA to India to participate in charity surgeries and engage local surgeons in learning the skills of foot and ankle surgery as well as rehabilitation. To date, Dr. Parekh and his team have trained over 900 surgeons and performed over 90 charity surgeries, including the first STAR ankle replacement in the history of India.

During this year’s trip, the team:

  • Distributed over 400 pairs of shoes to children in need
  • Trained over 170 surgeons
  • Performed surgeries for those suffering from neglected orthopaedic issues
