Strategic Content Assistant
PhD, Pratt School of Engineering

Mark Chen is a PhD Candidate in Mechanical Engineering, specializing in computational mechanics and inverse problems. As part of Duke’s IOMechLab, his research involves using computational simulation and modeling to determine optimal sensor locations to identify high risk damage within structures of interest. His other interests include incorporating and understanding decision making processes. As an electrical/computer engineer by training, he has practical experience designing autonomous underwater submersibles and sensors for ocean mapping. He hopes to integrate his research with current oceans methodologies to develop practical standards for tracking and understanding people’s impact in the world’s seas.
