NAB 2017 was quite the virtual show. VR was larger than 3D was at it’s heyday. There was a large assortment of cameras varying in prices from a few hundred to hundreds of thousands of dollars (with most prosumer cameras in the $5000 range) and a number of interesting non-goggle based viewing systems. It’s hard to say if consumers and users will embrace the sometimes claustrophobic VR goggles when they wouldn’t embrace lightweight 3D glasses but there are plenty of other options on how to view immersive video, 360° and otherwise, which is what I believe to be the catalyst for this platform.
