De’Ja Wood

African & African American Studies Major with Education Minor, and Human Rights Certificate

De’Ja is a Rubenstein Scholar from Saint Louis, Missouri. As a Saint Louis native that bore witness to the 2014 Ferguson uprising, De’Ja is passionate about justice for Black and Brown people. In her time at Duke, De’Ja has served as the President of the Duke Chapter of the NAACP, Vice President of Black Student Alliance, and Community Service Chair for the Iota Mu Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She has served on a number of committees under the University President, including the President’s Council on Black Affairs and the President’s Working Group on Community and Dialogue. She is a founding student, Student Leader, and House Course Teacher of the Mitchell-White House. De’Ja currently serves as the Director of SHAPE Week (Sexual Harassment and Assault Prevention & Education) and a student leader for the Mitchell-White House. Outside of campus, De’Ja has spent much of her time mentoring students, leading voter registration drives, and organizing efforts supporting historically disenfranchised, low-income housing communities.
