Apply now for graduate fellowships in the Integrative Bioinformatics for Investigating and Engineering Microbiomes (IBIEM) Program

The 2018 application cycle is now open for the Integrative Bioinformatics for Investigating and Engineering Microbiomes (IBIEM) training program! IBIEM is an NSF-funded interdisciplinary graduate training program between Duke University and North Carolina A&T State University which brings together graduate researchers from various fields with an interest in microbiome research. This program is intended to supplement the training students receive from their home graduate programs and will include quantitative skills workshops, an annual IBIEM symposium, professional development workshops and team-building activities. Eligibility and Funding
IBIEM is open to all students at Duke and North Carolina A&T with an interest in microbiome research – graduate students from any program are eligible to apply.  Doctoral students are also eligible to receive a stipend of $34,000 per year, and payment of tuition and fees.  This is a guaranteed one year fellowship with funding from September 1, 2018 through August 31, 2019. Limited travel funds for conferences and workshops are also available to all IBIEMTrainees.  

 Application Process
The online application consists of uploading:
1) a short CV (2 pages max)
2) an unofficial transcript
3) a brief essay (0.5-1 page) outlining why you are interested in participating in IBIEM. If you have experience/working knowledge or unique skills or experience relevant to IBIEM’s core areas and training objectives, please specify them in your essay. In addition, please discuss your future career plans after completing your graduate degree. 

Finally, in addition to completing the online application, applicants should request that their advisor email a reference letter to Dr. Glenda Kelly at glenda.kelly@duke.edu

Preference will be given to applicants who submit all of their application materials by May 2, 2018.
