Bass Connections

Bass Connections bridges the classroom and the world beyond the university, giving students from all of Duke’s schools a chance to tackle complex societal problems alongside our superb faculty. We support research teams that draw on perspectives and methods from multiple disciplines, as well as robust engagement with communities, stakeholders and decision-makers.

Duke Advanced professional Degree Consulting Club (APD)

The Duke Advanced Professional Degree Consulting Club (APDCC) prepares Duke graduate students for a future career in management consulting. Our members hail from diverse backgrounds, equipped with niche skillsets in STEM and Liberal Arts. Many past club member alumni have been offered positions at leading consulting firms upon graduation. We partner with and are the recruiting targets of consulting firms such as The Boston Consulting Group, McKinsey & Company, Bain & Company, and Triangle Insights Group.

Duke Interdisciplinary Social Innovators (DISI)

We bring together interdisciplinary graduate student teams that provide pro bono consulting services to social organizations in Durham and beyond. We provide students with the opportunity to gain experience beyond the classroom in a collaborative environment while strengthening the work of change makers at the intersection of technology, business, and public policy.

ERGMGMT 556: Practicum

The Engineering Management Practicum is a 3-credit elective (EGRMGMT 556) that offers campus MEMP and MEng students the opportunity to work on real-world consulting projects acquired from industry.

Professor Holmes will announce all projects during the first 1 week of class each semester. His e-mail will provide details about each available sponsor and project, how to apply, and the application deadline. Applications are typically due near the end of the first week of classes although specific dates will be detailed in the email.

IXL Innovation Olympics

The IXL Innovation Olympics is an innovation consulting competition where graduate student teams tackle a strategic growth challenge set for a corporate or non-profit sponsor. During the 8-week competition, teams are mentored by experienced professional coaches, while sponsors provide guidance to teams and then select the winning business plans and teams.

TUM Summer Research in Germany

In the framework of the Practical Research Experience Program (TUM PREP), TUM invites each summer excellent students from select North American universities to spend an at least 10-week long research stay at TUM. Participating students gain valuable insights into the research work at Germany’s top-ranked technical university and enhance their technical and methodological qualifications. Applications will open every fall.
