How did a hopeless street kid from Brooklyn grow up to be an artist, a teacher, a husband, and, most important to me, a father?
My thesis work is an exploration of the answer to this question. It is a collection of visual artworks that aim to strike a balance between the personal struggle and a creative fantasy. This balance defines my journey from childhood, to adulthood, and culminating with parenthood. Each piece has a profound focus of themes such as love, family, fatherhood, motherhood, race relations, politics, crime, delinquency, urban subcultures, and the diaspora. Investigating this balance not only tells my story but reflects upon the constant search for my inner soul as an artist, and my overall redemption as a man.
