The Media and Drones: A Response to the New York Times
One of the most frustrating things about the drone debate is that so many of the critics (in the media especially) complain about the government’s alleged lack of transparency, yet fail themselves to give their readers a full and fair picture of the facts. In an essay in The Hill (entitled “Why can’t the media be more transparent about drones?”) I attempt to balance the discussion that a recent New York Times editorial (“Transparency in the Drone Wars”) generates.
Though I didn’t mention it in my piece, it does puzzle me that the Times doesn’t give any credit to drone operations as possibly helping to achieve a fact one would think would be obvious to any New Yorker: there hasn’t been a repeat of the 9/11 attacks.
Anyway, for more, check out the essay.
