Both UNC and Duke acquire core materials from throughout Latin America and the Caribbean to support undergraduate study. In addition, both work cooperatively to purchase research-level materials, special formats, and expensive items such as censuses, films, and large microform collections. As a result, the collections are complementary and there is a low rate of duplication.
Duke is primarily responsible for collecting materials from:
- Andean Nations (except Venezuela)
- Brazil (specializing in research materials in the social sciences)
- Central America
- English-speaking Caribbean
- Mexico
UNC is primarily responsible for collecting materials from:
- Brazil (specializing in research materials in the humanities)
- French-speaking Caribbean
- Spanish-speaking Caribbean
- Southern Cone
- Venezuela
The UNC and Duke libraries also have extensive collections of Latin American & Caribbean films available for use by our communities.
