A Model for XKCM1 Function at the Kinetochores

In the model depicted above, XKCM1 is shown bound to the kinetochore and translocating toward the plus end of a microtubule, away from the spindle pole and toward the kinetochore. At the end of the microtubule, XKCM1 triggers a catastrophe, causing depolymerization of the microtubule and movement of the motor back toward the pole.
