PS 303: Race, Ethnicity, and Gender in Politics and Policy

PS 303:
Race, Ethnicity, and Gender in Politics and Policy

Course Description

Race, ethnicity, and gender have long been associated with salient and significant cleavages in American politics. They interact and intersect in complex and confounding ways and they have a persistently powerful influence upon politics and society. Using research from the legislative arena, this seminar will introduce students to major theoretical perspectives, debates, controversies, and research findings in the empirical study of gender, race, ethnicity, and politics. We will consider the distinctive roles women and racial and ethnic minorities play in the policy-making process.
