• Course: Global Health as an Ethical Enterprise (GLHLTH 345)
      • Description: This course explores the moral dimensions of Global Health. It is a reading and discussion based class in which we are challenged to think deeper about the ethical challenges of caring for distant strangers.
      • Relation to GC focus: This class is related to my GC focus because it allows me to explore the ethical dilemmas of trying to help other communities. Restoring and improving infrastructure involves working with communities, who often are less developed than those we live in. It is important to consider all of the moral dimensions involved in development projects, so as to avoid destruction of culture and ensure large impact.

      • Description: This class explores the current energy system and its challenges, especially in relation to the environment. It is the core class for the Energy and the Environment Certificate.
      • Relation to GC focus: This class is related to my GC focus because energy is an important part of infrastructure. Renewable energy technologies strive to improve infrastructure by decreasing the negative impacts on the environment.

        • Description: This class involves learning about methods of research, such as surveys, focus groups etc., for studies involving Spanish speakers. It is a service learning class as well, so it involves interacting with Spanish speakers in the Durham community to help current research studies.
        • Relation to GC focus: This course is related to my GC focus because it relates to the community aspect of infrastructure projects. It is important to be able to communicate with and understand the needs of the community in order to make the project most impactful.
