Every year, members of Kappa Alpha Theta nationwide participate in philanthropy events to raise money for Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA. CASA is a program that provides volunteer guardians for abused or otherwise neglected children as they navigate their way through the court system. In many scenarios, the CASA guardians provide the sole stable adult presence in a child’s life. These volunteers are essential to the health and well-being of these children and ensure that they are able to thrive despite their hardships. CASA is “for the child”.
Duke Thetas began hosting a large-scale fundraiser for this outstanding organization called Rock the CASA. The event has been a huge success! Rock the CASA is composed of performances by various Duke student groups, including a fraternity band, acapella groups, multi-cultural dance teams, improv groups, and performances from our own members. At the show, we sell Rock the CASA t-shirts and collect donations from attendees, and 100% of the proceeds go to the local CASA/GAL office in Durham and to the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation.
Kappa Alpha Theta values philanthropy and its members devote much time and effort to giving back. The money we raise goes directly toward helping children in need and undoubtedly allow for future successes in these children’s lives.
