Deadline: All available graduate student conference funding for 2016-17 has been awarded. No more funds are available for this year. Please check back in August 2017 for funding for next year.
With funding received from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies is able to offer the Mellon Conference Travel Grants, which are travel awards for Duke graduate students who will present papers on Latin American and/or Caribbean topics at conferences or professional meetings. There is no set deadline – applications will be considered as they are received until the funds run out for the year. Students are encouraged to apply as soon as they receive confirmation of their acceptance to the conference, and at least 30 days before the date of the conference. Duke graduate students at any level are eligible to apply.
Applications should include
- A proposal (not more than one page) stating the name and location of the conference, your funding needs including cost of airfare and registration, and reference to any other funding sources available to you
- A copy of the letter approving your panel participation at the professional meeting
- A copy of your abstract, including the title of the presentation. Please also indicate whether you have received any other Duke funding to attend this conference.
Please submit your request to Natalie Hartman, Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Room 140 Franklin Center, Box 90254. You can also submit it via e-mail to njh@duke.edu.
Award amounts will vary, with an average award of $350 for domestic travel and a maximum award of $500 for international travel.
